The Rules

I'll admit, I'm a sucker for rules...

Rule #1:  One country a week, no consecutive repeats.  (multiple entries on the same country within the project are fine)

Rule #2:  Food does not necessarily have to be the most typical breakfast item available in that country.  That would be another blog entitled, "A year of cereal, rice and toast."  The key is for it to be something interesting.

Rule #3:  Breakfast may be home-cooked, store-bought, or served at a restaurant.  While I suspect most will be home-cooked (getting to a restaurant in time for breakfast on the weekends is a rare occurrence around here), some items are always going to be better served at a restaurant. (here's looking at you roti)

The format and style may change over time,  but the real goal is to expand our idea of breakfast.  We live in the most multi-cultural city in the world (almost 50% of Toronto residents were born in another country) and although we love to try new cuisines, we almost never try them for breakfast.  That honour is saved for when we travel, and even then it can be difficult.  I'm not ashamed to admit that I had Starbucks for breakfast when we just couldn't figure out that local bun shop in Beijing....
